CVNM Action Fund Endorses Deb Haaland for Governor

Green Gov 2026 Website Launched To Highlight Haaland’s Record

[SANTA FE] – Today, Conservation Voter New Mexico (CVNM) Action Fund, CVNM’s coordinated political action committee, proudly endorsed Secretary Deb Haaland for Governor in the 2026 election cycle. The endorsement decision follows a rigorous process to vet eligible candidates running for Governor in the 2026 election cycle.

Deb Haaland is a 35th generation New Mexican and a member of Laguna Pueblo. She was the first Native American woman elected to lead a State Party, one of the first Native American members of Congress, and the first Native American to serve in a White House cabinet position when she became Secretary of the Department of Interior in the Biden-Harris administration. In the US Congress, Haaland also earned a 98% lifetime score on the League of Conservation Voters’ Scorecard.

“Secretary Haaland’s record of public service and dedication to the people speaks for itself,” stated Demis Foster, CVNM Chief Executive Officer. “She has been an outspoken advocate in protecting our public lands, ensuring we have safe water to drink, and tackling the climate crisis. In the wake of unprecedented attacks on our air, land, water, wildlife, and livelihoods, who we elect to lead our state has never been more important. New Mexico’s next Governor must be one who will stand up to bullies and fight for our people. With Haaland at the helm, we know that real and meaningful change will happen and will benefit hardworking families. She’s a leader that cares deeply about achieving real results for our communities, and has a track record of being transparent and balanced in her leadership approach. We look forward to supporting her campaign and working with her in the coming months.”

New Mexico has made notable progress on climate, water, land, and wildlife protection in the past eight years under the Lujan Grisham Administration. Key policies include a statewide transition to carbon neutral electricity by 2045 (Energy Transition Act, 2019), methane and ozone precursor rules (2021, 2022), and the adoption of the Land of Enchantment Fund (2023). The 2025 legislative session also resulted in historic investments in climate projects, with over $400 million allocated to renewable energy, efficiency, and community resilience. The Environment Department also recently filed a petition with the Environmental Improvement Board to move forward with a statewide occupational heat standard to save the lives of workers during temperature extremes. However, other states have surpassed New Mexico’s progress on climate in recent years. This, coupled with the onslaught of attacks on bedrock environmental policy by the Trump Administration, has recentered the need for climate and community-centered leadership at the state level.

“The 2026 election represents a critical window for hope, opportunity, and progress for the tens of thousands of New Mexicans experiencing the impacts of Trump’s crumbling economy and threats on our daily lives,” stated Molly Taylor, CVNM Chief Executive Officer. “State and local leaders can and should lead the way to protect our communities from the impacts of Trump’s chaotic decisions, and ensure our right to clean air, safe water, accessible lands, and abundant natural heritage is protected for our future generations. As a leader who is ready to fight for the people of New Mexico, we’re proud to stand with Secretary Haaland in her campaign for Governor. With her Administration at the helm, our future will be bright.”

Along with the endorsement, CVNM Action Fund also launched Green Gov 2026, a clearinghouse website, to uplift the environmental platforms and track record of Haaland. The website serves as a resource for voters to better understand her priorities and experience, and stay informed of news articles highlighting her commitments.
