Deb Haaland Donates 811 Pounds of Food to Roadrunner Food Bank, Supporting 676 Meals

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Yesterday, Deb Haaland and her team delivered 811 pounds of food and necessities to the Roadrunner Food Bank in Albuquerque. The donations support the equivalent of 676 meals. Haaland and her team packed boxes, stocked shelves, and helped families picking up groceries load their cars.

With the lapse in SNAP benefits due to the Republican government shutdown, families are looking to community food banks to get meals on the table.

As a former SNAP recipient, Haaland knows the challenges of not being able to make ends meet. State leaders are the last line of defense against Donald Trump’s attacks on New Mexicans’ livelihoods. As governor, she will be laser focused on lowering costs, making groceries more affordable, and making sure New Mexicans have access to jobs that pay well.

“It was in November when I first applied for SNAP benefits and was rejected – I had no idea where I was going to get the next meal for me and my child,” Haaland said. “Donald Trump’s failure to lead is letting New Mexicans go hungry. We need leaders who care and fight back.”

Haaland engages in community activities as part of her commitment to bring people together to serve their communities. In Española, Haaland packaged hygiene kits for those struggling with homelessness and after the floods in Ruidoso Haaland delivered supplies to first responders and packaged meals for those recovering from flood impacts. Haaland also picketed alongside workers to demand fair wages and benefits from Creamland Dairy.
