NEWS: Deb Haaland Slams Kristi Noem For Withholding Disaster Relief Funds from New Mexicans
Report is part of longstanding Incompetence on ICE, FEMA Funding
ALBUQUERQUE, NM – As Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem puts New Mexicans at risk deploying ICE against communities, she is also holding up over a billion dollars of FEMA funding according to a report from NOTUS.
One project being prevented by Noem is wildfire mitigation support for the town of Los Alamos, New Mexico. Los Alamos is home to the Los Alamos National Lab, which employs close to 18,000 people.
Haaland has seen first hand the devastation natural disasters can have on New Mexico communities. She visited the Hermits Peak/Calf Canyon Fire burn scar near Las Vegas that was destroyed by wildfires and delivered supplies to first responders following floods in Ruidoso.
In response to this news, Haaland released the following statement:
“Everyday Kristi Noem heads the Department of Homeland Security, the less safe Americans are. Not only is she perpetuating and lying about violence against law-abiding people, she is stealing critical funds that allow New Mexicans to recover from and prepare for natural disasters. Noem’s incompetence is a liability and a failure of leadership. She should step down.”
