Deb Haaland Earns Endorsement From Communications Workers of America Local 7076
CWA Local 7076 Represents Public Employees Across New Mexico
ALBUQUERQUE, NM – Today, the Communications Workers of America Local 7076 announced their endorsement for Deb Haaland in the New Mexico gubernatorial election. CWA Local 7076 represents public employees across the state with members working for the State of New Mexico, University of New Mexico, University of New Mexico Hospital, Central New Mexico Community College, Timberon Water and Sanitation Department, and Albuquerque Community Safety Department.
CWA Local 7076 joins the Committee of Interns and Residents, of the Service Employees International Union and the American Federation of Teachers New Mexico in supporting Haaland’s record fighting for workers and leadership for New Mexico. Haaland also recently stood with public workers to include a raise for public sector employees in the next state budget.
“The members of CWA Local 7076 are proud to stand with our Union siblings across the state and endorse Deb Haaland. As public employees, the next Governor will also be our next boss, so this is a decision we did not take lightly. Deb has consistently stood with strong unions and working families — fighting for good-paying union jobs, pushing for investments that create union jobs, and ensuring workers have a real seat at the table. Her experience governing at the highest levels of the federal government is unmatched, and we need leadership that dignifies each public servant and the work they do for our state. We look forward to working with Deb to build a state government that provides sustainable employment so that we can better serve the people of New Mexico” said Megan Green, President of CWA Local 7076.
“New Mexico workers are the backbone of our economy. Public servants are part of that. I stand with unions because they build up the middle class and advocate for the good pay and the benefits that people deserve. As Donald Trump continues to weaken the rights of workers and attack our healthcare, governors will be critical to providing support for unions and their members. I am honored to have the endorsement of the public servants working for our state, and I will work to make New Mexico the best state to work for,” Haaland said.
Haaland has stood in solidarity with unions her entire career and understands that strong unions help families pay the bills, have access to healthcare, and earn a secure retirement. In Congress, Haaland voted to raise the minimum wage and cosponsored legislation to strengthen workers’ rights to organize. Under Haaland’s leadership the Department of the Interior was voted one of the best agencies to work by the public servants who work there, and she oversaw hundreds of millions of dollars of investments across the country that created good-paying union jobs. Haaland will bring that experience to New Mexico.
