Deb Haaland Dominates Democratic Pre-Primary Convention with Overwhelming Support
73% Back Haaland to Make New Mexico Stronger, Take on Trump’s Republican Party in the General Election

Albuquerque, N.M. – Today, the Democratic Party of New Mexico released the results of the 2026 Democratic Pre-Primary Convention with Deb Haaland receiving a decisive 73% of the vote to take on Trump’s Republican Party in the gubernatorial election. She had the largest margin of victory among the candidates running for an open seat, indicating her overwhelming momentum heading into the June primary.
The results reaffirm Haaland’s momentum and strong support among Democratic voters across the state, securing her spot on the ballot in the June primary election. Candidates must receive at least 20% of the delegate vote at the pre-primary convention to qualify for the primary ballot.
“This election will decide if New Mexicans can pay their bills each month, see a doctor when they’re sick, have a quality public education, and feel safe in their community. I’m grateful to all the delegates who voted for me, the volunteers that got me to this point, and for the confidence of Democratic delegates to take on Trump and MAGA Republicans,” said Haaland. “Our work isn’t done however. I will work every day to get Democrats out to vote in June’s primary to show Republicans that we won’t stand for their leadership failures. Together, we will continue building a future where every family has the opportunity to succeed.”
“Her performance is a testament to the strong, winning campaign Deb continues to build. Our campaign has the winning message, the strongest and most experienced candidate, the best team, and the momentum to deliver a decisive victory in June and again in November,” said Campaign Manager Dylan McArthur.
Haaland has the most legislative and executive experience in this race. In Congress, Donald Trump signed five of her bills into law and as Secretary of the Interior, she oversaw an $18 billion budget and more than 70,000 employees.
Running for governor, Haaland has traveled to all 33 counties in New Mexico and is committed to meeting with voters in every corner of the state. Her policy plans reflect those conversations and she is committed to lowering costs, improving education, strengthening public safety, expanding access to healthcare, and standing up to Donald Trump.
