IN THE NEWS: Deb Haaland Dominates Democratic Pre-Primary Convention with Overwhelming Support From Voters Across the State

Albuquerque, N.M. – In case you missed it, Deb Haaland, who is running to be the next governor of New Mexico, received 74% of the vote at the Democratic Pre-Primary Convention. She had the largest margin of victory among the candidates running for an open seat, indicating her overwhelming momentum heading into the June 2nd primary, and is the clear choice to build a bright future for New Mexicans and take on Trump’s Republican Party.

Voters at the convention consisted of teachers, parents, students, small business owners, veterans, and everyday working New Mexicans seeking a better future for our state. At the convention, around 1,000 delegates listened to candidates give speeches and share their visions for New Mexico. Delegates then voted for their choice to be governor, where Haaland received an overwhelming majority. The results reaffirm Haaland’s momentum and strong support among Democratic voters across the state, securing her spot on the ballot in the June primary election.

Haaland enters the race with extensive legislative and executive experience. While serving in Congress, five of her bills were signed into law by Donald Trump. As Secretary of the Interior, she managed an $18 billion budget and oversaw more than 70,000 employees.

Since launching her campaign for governor, Haaland has traveled to all 33 counties in New Mexico and has pledged to meet voters in every corner of the state. Her policy agenda reflects those conversations and focuses on lowering costs, improving education, strengthening public safety, expanding access to healthcare, and standing up to Donald Trump.

“Deb Haaland posted a decisive victory over her primary rival Sam Bregman at the Democratic Party of New Mexico’s pre-primary convention, firmly establishing herself as the frontrunner for the party’s nomination in June.

Voting results released Monday by the state party showed Haaland with 73.5% of the votes cast by 997 delegates at the pre-primary convention on Saturday, while Bregman received 26.5% of the votes.”

Santa Fe New Mexican: Haaland favorite for governor in New Mexico Democrats’ preprimary convention 

Former U.S. Interior Secretary Deb Haaland and Bernalillo County District Attorney Sam Bregman both secured enough votes at the Democratic Party of New Mexico’s preprimary convention to appear on the June 2 ballot.

But Haaland blew Bregman out of the water.

Results released Monday show Haaland won 73.52% of the vote compared with Bregman’s 26.48%.

Haaland’s campaign, which called the results decisive, noted Haaland had the largest margin of victory among candidates running for an open seat, which indicated “her overwhelming momentum heading into the June primary.”

“This election will decide if New Mexicans can pay their bills each month, see a doctor when they’re sick, have a quality public education, and feel safe in their community,” Haaland said in a statement. “I’m grateful to all the delegates who voted for me, the volunteers that got me to this point, and for the confidence of Democratic delegates to take on Trump and MAGA Republicans.”

Delegates at the Democratic Party of New Mexico’s pre-primary convention showed broad support for Deb Haaland in the governor’s race.

After around 1,000 Democratic delegates cast their vote over the weekend at Inn of the Mountain Gods at Mescalero Apache Nation, the results showed Haaland with a commanding lead over Bregman.
