New Mexico House Budget Chair Nathan Small Endorses Haaland for Governor
Albuquerque, N.M. – Today, New Mexico House Appropriations Chair Nathan Small, announced his endorsement of Deb Haaland in the race for governor.
“As Chair of the House Appropriations Committee, my top priority is ensuring our state budget reflects New Mexican values. I’m proud to endorse Deb Haaland for governor. Her experience leading at the highest levels, combined with her vision to make life more affordable, stand up for working families, and grow our economy for the future, is exactly what this moment demands. I look forward to partnering with her to build a stronger New Mexico.” said Chair Small.
State Representative Small has served in the state legislature for nearly a decade and serves as the Chair of the House Appropriations Committee where he leads on the state’s annual budget. Throughout his time in the legislature, Representative Small has been instrumental in supporting policies that benefit working class families. As Chair, Small worked to pass key funding for early childhood education and universal childcare. Small’s endorsement is a testament to Haaland’s wide support in the state legislature and reflects her ability to partner with our state’s budget committee, a key relationship to have as governor.
“Chair Small has been instrumental in funding our state to make it more affordable for families. Under his leadership, New Mexico evaded harmful Trump cuts to Medicaid and healthcare, while funding policies that make people’s lives better like universal childcare,” Haaland said. “I am honored to earn his endorsement and I look forward to working with Rep. Small to create a more affordable and healthier New Mexico”.
Throughout her campaign, Haaland has traveled to all 33 counties in New Mexico, meeting directly with families, workers, and community leaders to hear their concerns and share her vision for a safer, stronger, and healthier state. As Secretary of the Interior Department, Haaland managed over 70,000 employees and an $18 billion dollar annual budget.
