More community members show confidence in Haaland’s leadership.
Albuquerque, N.M. – Today, Deb Haaland, candidate for New Mexico governor announced that she has secured over 50 endorsements from New Mexico leaders in her first week of campaigning. Her endorsements range from city councilors and county commissioners to New Mexico legislators, all three NM members of Congress, and U.S. Senator Ben Ray Luján. The list also includes former elected officials like Paula Garcia and Marty Chavez. The full list of endorsements is available on the Deb Haaland for New Mexico website.
“Deb Haaland knows the challenges that New Mexicans face because she’s lived them. I’ve worked with her up close when she served in Congress and as America’s first Native American Cabinet Secretary, and she has what it takes to continue delivering for New Mexico. I am proud to support her campaign and I look forward to joining her across the state,” said U.S. Senator Ben Ray Luján.
“I’m grateful for the trust that all of these leaders are putting in me – I am confident that the work I’ve put in over the years in New Mexico and in Congress, alongside the executive experience I gained at Interior, will ensure that I can be the leader New Mexico deserves. I’m looking forward to working with all of these leaders to change the game for New Mexicans,” said Deb Haaland, candidate for New Mexico Governor.
Haaland launched her campaign with a video highlighting her commitment to lowering costs, addressing crime, and promoting healthy communities. In the first five days of her campaign. Haaland crossed $1,000,000 in contributions from over 20,000 donors, including donations from every county in New Mexico. This impressive haul demonstrates her strong base of grassroots support in addition to her dynamic ability as a fundraiser.
She also launched a statewide tour to meet and hear from New Mexicans as she seeks to change the game for families in the state. Haaland has visited with more than 2,000 New Mexicans who shared their ideas, concerns, and hopes at her first seven events in Albuquerque, Bernalillo, Santa Fe, Las Cruces, Deming, Silver City, and Socorro. Momentum for Haaland’s campaign was evident at each event and her premier launch event in Albuquerque last Wednesday paid homage to New Mexico’s traditions and cultures featuring lowriders, local food venders, live music, and folklorico dancing.
Haaland was confirmed as Secretary of the Interior with strong bipartisan support and is the first Native American cabinet secretary in our nation’s history. As Secretary, she led nearly 70,000 federal employees and worked tirelessly for New Mexicans, securing and supporting thousands of New Mexico jobs, historic local clean energy development, and overseeing hundreds of millions of dollars of investments in the state. She played a pivotal role in protecting 13.5 million acres of land in New Mexico, partnering with rural communities and Tribal Nations to preserve natural resources for fishing, ranching, recreation, and more. As someone who grew up in a rural community, Deb partnered with New Mexico’s rural towns and villages to secure clean water and address their biggest challenges.
