Haaland, Buttigieg, New Mexico Democrats Rally Voters In Las Cruces
Haaland lays out her vision for a healthier, safer, and more affordable New Mexico
LAS CRUCES – Yesterday, Deb Haaland, the Democratic nominee for Governor of New Mexico, rallied voters from across the political spectrum in Las Cruces, with former Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg, Congressman Gabe Vasquez, candidate for New Mexico’s second congressional district, and Vanessa Ordoñez, the Democratic nominee for Doña Ana County sheriff.
In her remarks, Haaland laid out her vision for a healthier, safer, and more affordable New Mexico, making clear that despite our state’s challenges, our brightest days are ahead.
“Data centers are on the horizon, private equity is looking to buy up our state’s housing and health clinics, and everyday New Mexicans are struggling to put food on the table for their families,” said Haaland. “These are the challenges that New Mexicans are facing. All while Donald Trump makes offensive AI videos trying to change the name of our state. But here in New Mexico, Democrats are laser-focused on solving these challenges, making sure your children have a hot meal on their plate and a roof over their head.”
Secretary Buttigieg was clear on his support for Haaland, his belief in a more prosperous future for all Americans, and the importance of electing New Mexico Democrats up and down the ballot in 2026– leaders who will work together to solve our biggest challenges and deliver a more affordable state for all.
“You know, I had the great honor of serving with Deb Haaland in the Cabinet. I saw up close what a great leader she is – the first Native American in the Presidential Cabinet. Someone who understood how to invest in communities that have been overlooked for too long, understood exactly what it means to put your money where your mouth is on protecting public lands. Somebody who teamed up with us to make sure the tribal governments had a better shot at getting transportation funding and who even though she served the entire country in the Cabinet, I’ll tell you, always lived and breathed New Mexico. You could feel you were close to New Mexico when you were with Deb Haaland,” said Buttigieg.
Finally, Haaland didn’t mince words about the stakes of New Mexico’s governor’s race and the importance of having a governor who will fight back against the Trump administration.
“And I’m going to continue to stand up to Donald Trump and his reckless policies that are making us sicker, hungrier, and poorer,” said Haaland. “We need leaders who know the struggles everyday New Mexicans are facing. Leaders who know what it means to work across the aisle to deliver results. Leaders who have stood up to Donald Trump before and are ready to do it again. The stakes of this election are crucial, and if we want to keep universal childcare, the Opportunity Scholarship, and the progress we’ve made in New Mexico, we need everyone’s help.”
