Families Share Support of Deb Haaland as Leader to Protect and Expand Universal Childcare
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Today, Democratic nominee for Governor Deb Haaland released a video highlighting the importance of Universal Childcare for New Mexico families.
New Mexico leads the nation by providing Universal Childcare to families across the state. In Haaland’s latest video, parents who have benefited from the program share their experience with Universal Childcare and how it has helped them make ends meet and put money in their pockets for other priorities. The video shows a stark contrast between Haaland’s plans to protect Universal Childcare in New Mexico and her opponent who wants to cut the program, leaving thousands of children without care.

“As a single mother, Universal Childcare would have changed my life. New Mexico has created an affordable option that helps families keep more money in their pocket,” said Haaland. “Gregg Hull said he doesn’t believe in universal anything and will use the Trump playbook to cut essential services that so many families rely on. As Governor, I am committed to protecting Universal Childcare and standing up for our families so they can thrive.”
“Why would you risk their future? This is just giving them a leg up and a chance to succeed […],” said Alex. “I mean, it’s kind of heartbreaking to think about taking this away. It’s helped out so many families.”
“I know Gregg Hull has talked about cutting Universal Childcare, and that would absolutely be a disaster for my family,” said Sydney.
As a member of Congress, Haaland was the lead sponsor of the Universal Child Care and Early Learning Act, which garnered strong support from leaders and organizations in New Mexico. As Governor, Haaland will support the expansion of Universal Childcare and programs to improve childcare in New Mexico, including:
- Protecting Universal Childcare and early learning into the future.
- Adopting and expanding Community School Models to coordinate resources and partnerships and deliver services.
- Increasing funds for before- and after-school programs that keep young people off the street.
- Creating an Every Child Outdoor Initiative that engages students in their education by incorporating outdoor learning into K-12 curricula.
Throughout her campaign, Haaland has traveled to all 33 counties in New Mexico, meeting directly with families to hear their concerns and share her vision for New Mexico. Supporting New Mexico’s families and protecting Universal Childcare is a top priority for Haaland.
