Deb Haaland Earns Endorsement from State, County, Municipal Employees AFSCME Council 18 – New Mexico
Albuquerque, N.M. – Today, the American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) Council 18 – New Mexico announced their endorsement of Deb Haaland in the New Mexico gubernatorial election.
The AFSCME Council 18 – New Mexico, joins numerous unions across the state who have expressed their support and endorsed Haaland’s campaign. Haaland also recently stood with public workers to include a raise for public sector employees in the next state budget.
“I am honored to earn the endorsement of an organization that fights for better pay, better health care, a more secure retirement, and works to protect the funding that supports programs and jobs that so many New Mexicans rely on,” said Haaland. “From nurses and childcare providers, to corrections officers and sanitation workers, AFSCME has worked to provide protections and opportunities for working families and I’m ready to continue that fight as governor”.
Haaland has stood in solidarity with unions her entire career and understands that strong unions help families pay the bills, have access to healthcare, and earn a secure retirement. In Congress, Haaland voted to raise the minimum wage and cosponsored legislation to strengthen workers’ rights to organize. Under Haaland’s leadership the Department of the Interior was voted one of the best agencies to work by the public servants who work there, and she oversaw hundreds of millions of dollars of investments across the country that created good-paying union jobs. Haaland will bring that experience to New Mexico.
Haaland has support of workers across New Mexico including CWA Local 7076, the Committee of Interns and Residents of the Service Employees International Union and the American Federation of Teachers.
