New Mexico Senate President Pro Tem Stewart Endorses Haaland for Governor
Broad legislative support points to Haaland’s ability to deliver on healthcare, affordability, public safety, education
Albuquerque, N.M. – Today, New Mexico Senate President Pro Tempore Mimi Stewart announced her endorsement of Deb Haaland to be the next governor of New Mexico, adding to Haaland’s strong legislative support needed to deliver a bold legislative agenda that will expand healthcare, lower costs, increase public safety and improve education.
“As President Pro Tempore of the New Mexico Senate, I’ve seen what it takes to lead and deliver lasting results for our state. For decades, I’ve fought to strengthen schools and support working families across New Mexico. I’m proud to endorse Deb Haaland for governor because she will continue to fight to improve our education system and create an affordable New Mexico,” said Senator Stewart.
A longtime public servant who has served in both the state House and Senate, Senator Stewart has been an advocate for education and the environment. She championed the Clean Horizons Act and worked with Governor Lujan Grisham to improve children’s literacy.
“As a former educator, Senator Stewart knows firsthand the challenges our schools face. Her commitment to public education and New Mexico families is why I’m so honored to have her trust to lead our state,” said Haaland. “I look forward to working with her to build new solutions and deliver a future our children deserve”.
Throughout her campaign, Haaland has traveled to all 33 counties in New Mexico, meeting directly with families, workers, and community leaders to hear their concerns and share her vision for a safer, stronger, and healthier state. As Secretary of the Interior Department, Haaland managed over 70,000 employees and an $18 billion annual budget.
