New Mexico Workers Back Haaland for Governor

International Association of Machinists – New Mexico State Council of Machinists & Aerospace Workers, NM Federation of Labor (AFL-CIO) Endorse Haaland for Governor

Albuquerque, N.M. – Today, the New Mexico State Council of Machinists and Aerospace Workers and the New Mexico AFL-CIO announced their endorsement of Deb Haaland to be the next governor of New Mexico. The endorsements demonstrate significant support from New Mexico workers and are a testament to Haaland’s record fighting for New Mexicans to receive the pay, benefits, and opportunities they deserve, while holding corporate greed accountable.

Both labor unions serve their members by bargaining for increased job security, higher wages, and improved benefits. NM AFL-CIO is a federation of multiple unions that represents New Mexico workers from numerous sectors including teachers, utility workers, electricians, doctor and nurse residents, and more.

“We are confident that Deb Haaland will continue to support working families and ensure that we have a voice in the Roundhouse,” said John Dyrcz, President of New Mexico State Council of Machinists & Aerospace Workers. “Working families deserve to not just get by, but have the opportunity to have some extra money in their pocket at the end of the month. We are proud to endorse Deb because she is the only candidate in this race who will fight to protect workers’ rights, strengthen workplace protections, and ensure safe working conditions for New Mexicans across our state.”

Haaland has earned the endorsement of workers across New Mexico including: New Mexico Professional Fire Fighters Association, Western States Regional Council of Carpenters, SMART Sheet Metal Workers Local 49, National Education Association – New Mexico, Council 18 American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, American Federation of Teachers-New Mexico, Communications Workers of America New Mexico Legislative Council, and the Committee of Interns and Residents of the Service Employees International Union.

Throughout her campaign, Haaland has traveled to all 33 counties in New Mexico, meeting directly with parents, students, educators, and working families to hear their concerns and share her vision for New Mexico.
