The New Mexico Building and Construction Trades Council Endorses Deb Haaland for Governor
Albuquerque, NM – Today, the New Mexico Building and Construction Trades Council (NMBCTC) announced its endorsement of Deb Haaland to be the next Governor of New Mexico. The endorsement demonstrates widespread support from New Mexico workers and is a testament to Haaland’s commitment to fighting for New Mexicans to receive the pay, benefits, and opportunities they deserve.
“The New Mexico Building and Construction Trades Council proudly stands with Deb Haaland and with the union jobs that strengthen New Mexico’s working families,” said Jeffrey Steele, Executive Director of the NMBCTC.
“I am so honored to have the trust of the New Mexico Building and Construction Trades Council. The Building and Construction Trades Council works tirelessly to make sure workers in our state have benefits and good pay, and I can’t wait to roll up my sleeves alongside them to keep more money in people’s pockets and prioritize working families,” said Haaland.
Haaland has earned the endorsement of workers across New Mexico including: New Mexico Professional Fire Fighters Association, Western States Regional Council of Carpenters, SMART Sheet Metal Workers Local 49, National Education Association – New Mexico, Council 18 American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, American Federation of Teachers – New Mexico, Communications Workers of America New Mexico Legislative Council, and the Committee of Interns and Residents of the Service Employees International Union.
Throughout her campaign, Haaland has traveled to all 33 counties in New Mexico, meeting directly with parents, students, educators, and working families to hear their concerns and share her vision for New Mexico. In order to open up the workers pipeline and create opportunities for students who choose not to go to college, Haaland plans to work with unions to bring the trades into middle schools and more high schools. Supporting New Mexico’s workers and creating a pathway for workers is a top priority for Haaland.
