Western States Regional Council of Carpenters Hammers Endorsement of Deb Haaland
Workers Rally Behind Haaland’s Leadership
Albuquerque, N.M. – Today, the Western States Regional Council of Carpenters, announced their endorsement of Deb Haaland to be the next governor of New Mexico. The union represents carpenters, drywallers, installers, and those who build up our state.
The Carpenters work to ensure economic security and career opportunities for its members and back Haaland’s plan to bring the trades into middle and high schools.
“Deb understands that union workers build New Mexico’s economy. We are proud to endorse her campaign for governor because we know she will continue to fight for fair wages, strengthen apprenticeship programs, and protect the rights of workers across the state. As working families face rising costs and economic uncertainty, it’s important we elect a governor who will invest in the trades, create good paying union jobs, and support a more affordable New Mexico,” said Rosendo Najar, Team Lead, Western States Regional Council of Carpenters.
“I’m honored to earn the endorsement of the Western States Regional Council of Carpenters and grateful for the hardworking union members who strengthen our communities every day. Organized labor creates good paying jobs with benefits,” said Haaland. “New Mexicans need more money in their pocket and opportunities here at home. Unions create a pathway for that future and as governor, I will always make sure our workers have a seat at the table.”
Western States Regional Council of Carpenters joins workers across New Mexico who support Haaland: SMART Local 49, NEA – NM, Council 18 AFSCME, American Federation of Teachers-New Mexico, CWA Local 7076, and the Committee of Interns and Residents of the Service Employees International Union.
Haaland has stood in solidarity with unions her entire career and understands that strong unions help families pay the bills, have access to healthcare, and earn a secure retirement. Haaland released an education plan that works to expand career pathways starting in middle school. Haaland hopes to cultivate the next generation of skilled trades-workers by having schools partner with experienced, quality, union apprenticeship programs to provide more opportunities for our kids and meet our workforce needs. Haaland’s affordability agenda lays out a plan to build New Mexico’s workforce, support our workers, and fight wage theft.
Throughout her campaign, Haaland has traveled to all 33 counties in New Mexico, meeting directly with parents, students, educators, and families to hear their concerns and share her vision for New Mexico. Supporting New Mexico’s workers and creating a pipeline of workers is a top priority for Haaland.
